There are two types of shavige uppittu or vermicelli upma in practice. One is this with tomato and roasted vermicelli and the other one is with lemon juice and without roasting the vermicelli. The ingredients are almost similar to rave uppittu or semolina upma, which I have posted earlier. You can have Shavige upma (vermicelli upma) using 23 ingredients and 5 steps. - Prepare of roasted vermicelli.
- You need of onion.
- It's of Green peas.
- It's of shredded coconut.
- Prepare of peanuts.
- You need of cashews.
- You need of raisins.
- It's of oil.
- It's of mustard seeds.
- Prepare of Urrad dal.
- It's of Channa dal.
- Prepare of Curry.
- It's of Coriander.

Shavige upma (vermicelli upma) step by step
- In a pan take oil + mustard seeds+urrad dal + Channa dal + curry leaves + cashews + raisins + peanuts + ginger + chilli and sauté for awhile.
- Now add a cinnamon stick + onion + green peas + turmeric and sauté well until onions are cooked..
- Now add 4 cups water + salt + jaggery + lemon and allow the water to boil..
- Once it’s boiled add roasted vermicelli + ghee to it. Boil in medium flame until vermicelli is cooked and water evaporates..
- Now add shredded coconut + coriander leaves and mix well. Let it cool for 15 minutes and then serve it..
At our home it has transformed from a breakfast/tiffin/evening snack dish to a main Growing up, as kids we preferred this upma over the regular Sooji upma.
