Recipe: Tasty Upma
Upma. Pour the roasted rava in a slow stream with one hand and constantly stir it in. The upma recipe I share here is adapted from my mom's recipe and continues to be a favorite in my home. The ingredients used to flavor the rava give it a deliciously satisfying taste that will make this.
Upma Recipe - A famous and traditional South Indian savory breakfast recipe. Upma is a savory porridge made with semolina / rava, ginger and green chillies. Essentially, upma is a thick, porridge-like breakfast dish that is made from coarse rice flour or semolina that has been dry-roasted. You can have Upma using 16 ingredients and 5 steps. Ingredients of Upma
- Prepare of semolina (rawa/suji).
- You need of oil/ghee.
- You need of mustard seeds.
- Prepare of cumin seeds.
- It's of hing.
- Prepare of urad daal/moong daal.
- Prepare of chana daal.
- You need of Few curry.
- Prepare of onion chopped.
- Prepare of tomato chopped.
- You need of green chilli.
- Prepare of Sambhar masala(optional).
- It's of Salt.
- Prepare of lemon juice.
- You need of fresh coriander leaves chopped.
- It's of Some cashews nuts for garnishing (optional).

Upma step by step
- First slightly dry roast semolina in a pan on low flame..
- Heat oil/ghee in the pan and add the mustard seeds, urad dal,chana daal and curry leaves. When the dal turns golden brown and the mustard seeds splutter, add cumin seeds along with pinch of hing.add sliced onion stir well and cook until slightly change in colour..
- Now add chopped tomatoes, green chillies and salt, (you can add the peas and vegetables of your choice in this stage). Mix well and cook closed until the tomatoes/ vegetables turn soft on low to medium heat..
- Now add Sambhar masala and roasted semolina and mix well.add about 1,1/2 cup of water and let it come to a boil on high flame.after that reduce the heat and cook covered for for around 3-4 minutes..
- In last add some roasted cashews, lemon juice and fresh chopped coriander and mix everything well.Delicious upma is ready serve hot..
